Welcome to the final feature article in this series, detailing the new Report Builder available within the Flood Modeller 7.3 update. If you missed any of the previous articles, check out the new bridge unit and simulation builder features coming in Flood Modeller 7.3.
A Modelling Project Involves Many Components …
It’s true !! A modelling project involves a myriad of components, and at each stage, data is generated, and decisions are made. Activities could include:
Assessment of your site: a collection of photographs, maps, previous reports and studies.
Hydrological analyses: catchment descriptors, deriving design hydrographs and peak flows (ReFH2 and WINFAP analyses) and reconciliation of hydrographs for use as model boundary inputs.
Model derivation: utilising survey data and designing flood defences, i.e. topographic adjustments.
Model simulations: for various events, design options and climate change scenarios.
Post-processing of model results: for a range of model outcomes.
All of this information can be harnessed for reporting that will form the final output from a project, yet managing these various components, along with their associated data and metadata, is a challenging and intricate task.
A Dynamic Solution
So what is the solution? Starting with Flood Modeller 7.3, we are introducing Report Builder, a tool which extracts key model data from your project and can be inserted directly into reports, saving significant time and improving quality. Report Builder will first be introduced to Hydrology+, providing the outputs needed to populate hydrology reports in a clear and consistent way.
When you build a report, the tool will collate all the available automated standard datasets. It will also incorporate any comments added to description fields as you worked through the Hydrology+ process and associated metadata (e.g., creation date and author). The report data will be extracted into a standard file and folder structure in formats that facilitate easy insertion into your project reports.
You can run the Report Builder multiple times as you progress your project, and each time, your report data will be refreshed and updated. Report Builder will be enhanced and expanded into other areas of Flood Modeller in future releases, bringing yet greater efficiency.
